Bathroom renovation in Alicante, start to finish
Bathrooms are often the first job on a newly bought property. Flats from the 1960s to the 1980s in the Centro, Benalúa or San Blas tend to have old pipes, a bath taking up most of the room and tiles that were never designed for a modern layout. Coastal apartments in Playa de San Juan, Albufereta or El Campello often have extractor fans that have given up and grout stained by humidity. A proper renovation solves the underlying problems, not just the surface.
What is included
Every bathroom quote is itemised so you can see exactly what you are paying for. A standard full renovation includes:
- Removal of the old bathroom and disposal of rubble.
- New water supply and waste pipes where needed.
- Electrics: new circuit, sockets, lighting and an extractor fan.
- Waterproofing of the shower area and floor.
- Wall and floor tiling, or large-format porcelain.
- Shower tray and screen, or a bath if you prefer one.
- Toilet, basin, vanity unit, taps and mirror.
- Plastering, ceilings and painting.
- Final clean and handover.
Sanitaryware and tiles can be supplied by us from mid-range or higher-end ranges, or you can buy your own and we fit them.
These are orientative 2026 prices for the Alicante area, IVA not included. Your fixed quote follows the visit.
Where the price lands within each range depends mainly on size, the tiles and fittings you choose, and whether pipes need replacing back to the riser. For a whole-home budget, see our renovation prices.

How we work
- Visit and measurements. We check pipes, drainage falls, ventilation and the condition of the walls.
- Itemised quote. You receive a fixed quote with every item listed and the materials specified.
- Choosing finishes. Tiles, taps and furniture, in person or by photos and video call.
- Paperwork. We submit the declaración responsable or licencia de obra menor to the town hall and let the community administrator know if needed.
- Works. Your project manager coordinates the plumber, electrician and tiler so the job runs without gaps.
- Handover. We check every tap, seal and fitting with you and issue the documented final review.
Design choices that work on the coast
A few choices make a real difference in Alicante's climate:
- Ventilation. A good extractor fan is essential in coastal flats where humidity is high and windows are small or absent.
- Porcelain tiles. Hard-wearing, easy to clean and less porous than ceramic, which helps against damp.
- Low-profile shower trays. Easier access and a cleaner look than a raised tray.
- Wall-hung toilets and vanities. They make small bathrooms feel bigger and are quicker to clean between rental guests.
- Quality silicone and waterproofing. Most leaks into the flat below start at a badly sealed shower.
Renovating a holiday home or from abroad
If you rent your apartment out, a bathroom can be done in the quieter months between seasons so it is ready before summer. If you live abroad, you do not need to be here: you approve the quote and finishes remotely and receive photo and video updates while the works progress.
In a block of flats, we check the community's rules on working hours and lift use with the administrator before starting, so there are no problems with the neighbours.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need permission to renovate a bathroom in Spain?
Bathroom works generally need to be declared to the town hall, usually through a declaración responsable or a licencia de obra menor. In a block of flats, the community of owners should also be informed, especially if noisy works or lift use are involved. We handle the paperwork for you.
Can you renovate the bathroom while I am not in Spain?
Yes. You choose tiles, taps and furniture from samples and photos or on a video call, and your project manager sends photo and video updates while the work goes on. Access can be arranged with your key holder or agent.
